Linking new material to what you already know. Here is one of the best tips for learning new material quickly.
As your child reads through a new chapter in social studies or science have her write down the important concepts or main ideas (See D). Right next to the important concept, or main idea, have your child write something he already knows that relates to that concept.
For example, if your child is learning the state capitals and your child is involved in sports, link the name of the professional or college team with the name of the capital city where the team plays.

pic Learning

Knowing how your child learns. Every child has his own unique learning style. Try to discover your child’s learning style so that you can help him more efficiently.
Some children like to learn through the discovery method. Give them the whole concept and they will break it down and discover how it is put together. They will learn to read using a literature based method. Give them a book they want to read and they will figure out the words!
Some children want the pieces explained as they go along. They want to learn the words first, then put the sentences together and then read the book. They will become very frustrated if they are asked to write a story and don’t know how to spell the words they want to use.
Some children need to “see” the information they are given. They need to take notes. The more visual cues they are given the better they will do (see P, using pictures). Some children can process information that they hear without a visual cue. They like to hear stories and usually love to talk a lot.
Those children who “just don’t sit still” need to experience their learning. They need to be actively involved in the learning experience. Most of us will need to use a more hands on approach when we are learning a task that is difficult.

What is a Webinar?

A Webinar (short for Web-based Seminar) is a seminar or presentation that's transmitted over the Internet.

When you sign up you are sent an email containing instructions for logging in from your computer. On the date and time specified you log in and see on your computer what the presenter is sharing. You also have the ability to hear and speak via mic and speakers connected to your computer or telephone. During the presentation you will have an opportunity to ask questions or type in your question and have the organizer read it for you.

It is very simple and fun. If you have any questions or need some help just give us a call and we will walk you through the process.

Doing Your Homework

A story from one of our families

When you tell your child that we are going to do homework on the floor and he asks "what is my homework" don't reply "we need to practice writing your name nicely. I'm going to get the roll of paper" because you will have nice printed letters of his name forever written in purple marker on the hardwood of his bedroom floor!- love those literal thinkers!-Cant even be mad I did say "we were going to write on the floor!"

A HALLOWEEN CRAFT

This makes cute treats for the trick or treaters. This cute little guy is made from Candy Orange slices. Start with a piece of Plastic wrap. Gather together 6 to 8 orange slices, forming a ball. The sizes vary, so use whatever is the most comfortable to work with.

Stick a short piece of Green Chenille Stem into the center and twist the excess wrap tightly around at that point. Using a piece of green curling ribbon, tie this tightly...you may need a second set of helping hands here....trim ribbon to about 5 inches, cut off the excess plastic wrap carefully and curl both ends of the ribbon.

Draw the face on with a sharpie permanent marker.
