Helping your child become an effective
note taker: The three column method works very well. Have your child make three columns on a plain piece of paper and write in the following headings:

Main Topic Information My Thoughts


Have your child use this form when she takes notes. This will help her organize notes and begin to integrate the information. She can fill in the last column as she goes along, or go back later and fill in more ideas.
Check your child’s notes at least once a week to make sure that she is following the note taking rules listed below.
NOTE TAKING RULES
Write words not sentences
Abbreviate words
No punctuation
Do not erase - draw a line through errors

2009 Employee of the Year

Rachel Sherman

Rachel received the 2009 Employee of the Year Award from the Washington State Hotel and Lodging Association.  Rachel is our 23 year old daughter who has Down Syndrome.  She works in the laundry at the Holiday Inn Express.  The award is not only great for Rachel but it also speaks volumes about Holiday Inn Express for their willingness to hire her and to make her successful in her work.  She works Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

A Fun Recipe for Kids

Puff Baby

Ingredients:

1/2 cup unbleached flour

2 eggs

1/2 cup milk

1/4 cup butter

Powdered Sugar

Lemon, cut into wedges

Directions:

Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Mix flour, eggs and milk together, leaving batter a bit lumpy. Melt butter in a 9 inch pie plate. Pour batter on top of butter. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown and puffy. Sift powdered sugar on top and squeeze lemon to desired amount. Serve at once.

Yield: 2 servings
