Self Management

Self talk: Self -talk is a wonderful way to help your child get through a difficult homework time, taking a test, or any other difficult situation.
There are four simple steps to self talk.
Step 1: Have you child state the problem.
“I have to learn to spell ten new words”
Step 2: Have your child state how they are going to proceed.
“I will write the first word and practice spelling it.”
Step 3: Have your child compliment herself.
“I learned one word, I am doing fine.”
Step 4: Have your child reassure herself if she makes a mistake.
“I just need to relax and learn one word at a time and I will do fine. I forgot a letter. I will write the word again.”
Make up self talk and try it with your child. It will really help keep her going.
Contracts
Have your child write up a contract for doing his homework. He can give himself points for having his materials ready, starting on time, and having his agenda filled out. He can decide how many points he should get for each assignment. When he gets enough points you can cook his favorite meal or let him have a friend stay over night.

A biopic of Dr.Temple Grandin's life.

Temple Grandin, Ph.D., didn’t speak until the age of 3½; instead, she screamed, peeped, and hummed. She was diagnosed with autism in 1950, when doctors recommended that her parents institutionalize her.

Today, the prominent author, speaker, and leading scientist dedicated to humane livestock handling is the subject of an HBO biopic starring actors Claire Danes, Julia Ormond, David Strathairn, and Catherine O’Hara.

Put Your Star on Our Tree

Our little tree is really bare,
That makes us very sad.
We need your help to make it shine,
And make us all feel glad.
We have a bunch of little stars,
Just waiting to be bought.
The price is just ten dollars,
And it would mean a lot.
We’ll write your name upon it,
And hang it on the tree.
Put a picture in the Weekly Word,
So everyone can see!
