Mom helping Diagram the main points

Sorting out the main ideas in a lesson: This is a method that you can use to help your child:
learn new material,
review a lesson,
or study for a test.
1. You and your child should skim the material or chapter that your child needs to study.
2. Identify the main ideas or topics. (Sometimes these are in large print or bold type which makes it much easier.)
3. Write the main ideas across the top of a paper.
4. Under each main idea write the important points that your child should remember.
5. Last, have your child read the chapter or review the lesson if they are studying for a test.

Expectations

Be clear and consistent. Make sure that your child
understands what your expectations are regarding school work.
If you are concerned about your child’s grades, let your child know that you expect to have a weekly report on grades.
If you are concerned that your child is not doing assignments, let your child know that you expect to go over the agenda everyday to see how things are going.
Write down what you expect:
1. I expect you to do your homework on time.
2. I expect you to let me know if you did not get an assignment done.
3. I expect you to know what your assignments are and when they are due.
4. I expect to see you doing your homework every night at the time and place you chose.
5. I expect you to do this without whining (OK that might be asking too much but give it a try).
6. I expect you to tell me, before the teacher calls, that you are having difficulty.
Even though your child may have trouble meeting your
expectations everyday, your child will know what you want.
